THE SMARTEST GENERATION STARTS NOW

It’s time young drivers were given the right tools to take charge of their reputation on the road. AAMI SmartPlates puts today’s tech in your hands so you have the power to become the smartest generation of drivers ever.

TRACK EVERY
DETAIL OF
EVERY DRIVE

Hit “Start Session” and AAMI SmartPlates tracks your practice hours, route choice, weather, road type and traffic conditions in real-time so you can find out where you’re getting experience and where you need work.

UPDATE THE OLD SCHOOL LOG BOOK

Leave the log book at home and kick-start a driving lesson whenever you want. The app logs every drive and automatically organises them into a printable PDF for you to download any time you want.

GET MOTIVATED TO MASTER IT ALL

AAMI SmartPlates scans the environment and encourages you to gain driving practice in all conditions, not just the easy ones. For example, Coach knows when rain is forecasted and encourages you to take care and hit the road for wet weather hours.

LEARN NEW SKILLS EVERY SESSION

Key driving skills designed by an accredited instructor are displayed every time you start a drive - drilling in those important basics when they’re needed most.

BLOCK BAD
HABITS FOR LIFE

The powerful Road Block feature turns on whenever a Learner starts a session. On Android, Road Block automatically silences incoming calls and sends callers a text telling them you’ll reply when you’ve stopped driving – preventing the urge to text and drive and encouraging better habits.

If phone use is detected on iPhone you’ll receive a tailored message discouraging you from dangerous distractions next time you drive.

CHALLENGE FRIENDS, BECOME THE SAFEST

FAQS

How do I get my AAMI log book?

Go to the log screen, select 'Export' and we’ll email you a PDF of your logbook. Or you can go to the AAMI Online, sign in using your app login and download your log book from there. Remember that this is only your driving history using the app, and depending on your State/ Terrority it may need to be transcribed to an official log book, and/or you might still need to meet other log book requirements like getting supervisor signature.

Why should I use the app if its not officially recognised by my state driving authority?

Using AAMI SmartPlates is still easier, even if your local driving authority doesn’t recognise the app. It automatically tracks where you drive, for how long, the weather, traffic, time of day and road type, so you can just focus on learning. When you’re ready to go for your P-plates, simply export your PDF logbook and if needed, transcribe it into the official log book. You can add to this by collecting any other information required (such as licence numbers and supervisor signatures).

Why aren’t all my sessions in the logbook?

Hmmm. The data may not have synced correctly. Try logging out of the app and logging back in again, which will make the data on your phone storage sync to the app.

My logbook is incomplete, where are the rest of my driving sessions?

If you have any unverified sessions, they won’t be included in your exported AAMI log book. Make sure all your driving is verified by a supervisor so it counts towards your total hours.

My email address isn't working to register

If you’re having trouble registering with the AAMI SmartPlates app, you may already have a login for AAMI Online. Try using those details to log into the app.

What happens if I use the app as a Guest user?

You don't have to provide any personal details to use AAMI SmartPlates, but you will miss out on some pretty good stuff. You won’t be able to view or export your full log book, and you won’t be eligible for any rewards provided by AAMI for using AAMI SmartPlates, as these require personal information.

How do I add a Supervisor?

Just go to the More menu on the app and select the ‘Supervisor’ tab.

How do I start a driving session?

To start a driving session, simply select the steering wheel icon at the bottom of the screen.

What is Road Block? Can I turn it off?

The Road Block function is designed to help minimise distractions so you can focus on your driving so it cannot be turned off. If you have an Android phone, AAMI SmartPlates will block any phone calls and if the call was from a mobile phone, the app will send a text to the caller to tell them you’re driving. If you have an iPhone, calls and texts are only silenced if you switch on Do Not Disturb.

Can I stop the app sending messages to people who contact me while I am driving?

We want you to focus on your driving, so you can’t turn it off.

How do I turn off push notifications?

You can turn off push notifications from the AAMI SmartPlates app via your phone’s Settings menu.

Why are my Driving Log sessions red?

If one of your driving sessions is showing red in the log tab of the app, it still needs to be verified by your supervisor. Just select the session and you’ll be taken through the verification steps. Once the trip is verified, you’ll be able to see the summary of your driving.

What if my supervisor forgets their PIN?

That’s a bummer. For security reasons a PIN cannot be changed once set. If your supervisor forgets their PIN, they’ll need to start a new record with a new PIN. Once they’re in the system, Supervisor details can be deleted, but not updated.

I wasn't connected to the internet while I was driving, what happens now?

Don’t worry, technology has got your back. Your driving data will automatically update as soon as you get back onto WiFi or mobile data, showing your driving route, traffic, weather and the time of day.

I've moved States, can I change it in the app?

Sorry, no. You’ll need to reinstall the app and register with another state. However, all is not lost! Some states may accept a partially completed logbook from another state, so make sure you export your log book before you reinstall the app.

My mum/ dad wants to view my driving progress, can they get the app too?

The app is only for you to track your driving and keep a record of your own progress. However, if your parents are AAMI customers and supervising your driving in the AAMI SmartPlates app, they can view your driving progress via AAMI Online by linking to your learner account.

Why do I have to provide my postcode?

You need to give your postcode to set the correct driving rules for your state. Every state is different.

Why do I need to collect licence numbers?

Due to privacy regulations, AAMI SmartPlates is unable to collect and store your drivers licence number or your superisor/instructor’s license. We’ll leave a space in your exported AAMI log book to add these details when you print it so make sure you note these details somewhere safe. This does not apply to SA or QLD where we have Government permission to collect these details.

Why do you need access to my location?

We track where you’re driving so you don’t have to. To make sure we can correctly track your drive, we need to access your location for GPS points. All you need to do is enter your odometer reading at the start of your drive.

I am a supervisor and have forgotten my PIN - what should I do?

For security reasons, PIN numbers cannot be changed once they’ve been set. You’ll need to delete your supervisor record within the app and set it up again with a new PIN number. Be sure to choose something you can remember easily.

I didn’t enter a supervisor before my driving session, why can't I see the summary of my drive?

A driving session can't be verified without supervisor details. In order to have a driving session count towards your app hours, you must add a supervisor so they can verify the trip.

I used the anonymous supervisor function, what that does mean?

A driving session can't be verified without supervisor details. In order to have a driving session count towards your app hours, you must add a supervisor so they can verify the trip and you can see the summary of the drive.

I had some lessons with an accredited driving instructor, don't I get extra hours?

Depending on your state, you could get three hours for every one hour driven with an accredited driving instructor, up to a maximum of ten one hour structured lessons. After this, your structured lessons only count for the actual time driven. In the app, your bonus hours will show on the driving summary screen, but your Driving Log entry will only show the actual hours driven. When you export your AAMI SmartPlates logbook, the sessions will be highlighted, with the additional hours counted in your driving total. If you have provided your correct postcode, the app will identify the rule that applies in your State.

I want to compete with my friends, how does the leaderboard work?

If you give AAMI SmartPlates permission to access your friends list on Facebook, it will show a list of your friends who are also using the app connected to Facebook. You can check the Leaderboard on AAMI SmartPlates to see how you’re tracking against each other.

AAMI SmartPlates is brought to you by AAI Limited ABN 48 005 297 807 trading as AAMI. AAMI SmartPlates Driving Log is only accepted in SA. In all other states, the AAMI SmartPlates Driving Log may not be accepted by the regulator, and a learner may need to transcribe their Driving Log into their Official Log Book.
